Guyahyn early childhood playgroup is an Indigenous directed playgroup for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-5yrs and their families. This program is auspiced by Murwillumbah Community Centre Inc. and funded by Murwillumbah Communities for Children and The Dept. Prime Minister and Cabinet. The Playgroup follows Indigenous values and philosophies which creates a safe and friendly atmosphere for Indigenous families while also encouraging early childhood development and transition to school. Its program is designed around different local bush food each week and includes Creative Expressions (art and crafts), Connecting to Country (outdoor exploration) and Deadly Circle Time (music, song, dance and language).
Guyahyn Playgroup is facilitated by a team of qualified Indigenous Early Childhood Educators and operates from 10am-12pm on Mondays at Possums Preschool, 20 McLeod St Condong during the school term. Parents attend the playgroup and learn alongside their children, strengthening cultural identity and their children’s development. There is no cost and a healthy lunch and transport is provided.
